i have only had my 700 for about a week and this is what i have found. First time i used poi it showed i was at my distination which was a motel it was a empty lot. Second thing i was in atlanta ga it started lagging i would pass my exit before it said to exit. third thing it has locked up several times and i had to turn it off to get it to unlock. When i purchased it about 2 weeks ago i was thanking it must be good if its rand mcnally i am now wondering if i made a mistake. If rand mcnally doesnt fix its faults many will stop buying this unit. they need to have updates to fix these things. mine was just updated and problems still there.

No GPS unit is perfect. I wouldn't assume though that if you buy one you're automatically going to have tons of problems with it.

I'm sure Rand is working on these issues.. their tester Mark checks in here regularly so he relays this stuff to them. Nothing is perfect, like I said I've discovered a few problems but overall my experience is good.

i sure hope he can help with this i feel at this time i have a 500 dollar paper weight. forgot to mention it also told me to exit off a hov exit designed for vehicles with more than one person. taking that exit if caught would be a nice size ticket. Anyway i do love the high def big screen and the fact they update regularly. however i have seen on the web where others are having same concerns with the tnd 500.

Just a quick post regarding the 700 to update this thread, how's everyone doing with theirs? I've been waiting and watching from the crowd on these, because some have had some problems with them.

I've been running a high end Garmin car model and manually entering the routes I work on my atlas with great luck so far. One of the main reasons I use a GPS in the first place is for accurate eta and routing distance (not to mention being able to take a phone call and not worry about missing a turn). At the time I bought the car model it was all of $220 shipped to me, and I plan to leave it in our car once the truck units start making more sense. After dealing with the Garmin for 60k miles now, I'm convinced I don't want a Garmin truck unit (this one locks up 4 times a day at least - and at least a few times a week in an interchange).

I'd looked at the 500 model, and was convinced to try one of their units - now with the 700 released it's really drawing some interest. The larger screen would be great to have, because sometimes my large fingers don't like entering things at all (Garmin screen is AWFUL for accuracy - you'll get a key halfway across the screen). As much as I like low cost solutions, a stiff price to pay is understandable if it's a quality product by a company that backs it. I use my GPS against a Rand atlas anyway, so page references would be a big help. A good friend of mine has been running a 500 awhile now and likes it for the most part.

A few suggestions on truck GPS - need to avoid stoplight runs whenever possible. Short route doesn't mean squat if you have to stop at 2 or 3 lights to make it. There are times when my buddies 500 will route him surface because an interchange would be another 2 or 3 miles extra - but well worth it and more fuel efficient to stay stopless.

Another note is a sun/glare visor for these units. Sometimes the glare drowns out the screen completely, to add to that - a flip-down tinted shade would help keep eyes happy at night (and could be flipped up for entries). While night glare is not a big deal in trucks most of the time, when I swap it to the car it reflects off the windshield badly - can't believe these aren't easy to find out there.

Thanks and be safe - always carry an up to date atlas in the truck!

I have the TND 700 and love it. I've had no problems with it at all. Until buying it the PC Miler unit was my favorite but the features and tools combined with the ease of use of the 700 blows away the PC Miler IMHO.

    As with most things, YMMV.
