GFS in Toronto and Quibec has quiet a few tandem axle straight trucks, and does hire the Canadian Class B drivers. I know in Ontario I think it's called an AZ license that's the CDL A for Ontario.
-
We have Volvos and ours are all still sticks even the 2016 series.

I know of the CDL AZ license, seems like every province has their own way of doing things. For Canadians, class 1 is drive any vehicle, class 2 is class 3 with 20+ passengers but no air brakes (school bus), class 3 tandum trucks with air brakes, class 4 small vehicle (cab, bus) with 20 or less passengers, class 5 basic driver, class 6 motorcycle, class 7 learner.Mike2633 Thanks this.

SUCKS!! I know many like to drive manual, but with all the idiots on the roads these days, makes life really stressful and worn out, people every day are cutting me off in the bus or tailgating. I just say "good luck hitting me idiot, like hitting a tank".

Volvos can be ordered with any transmission you like, but in our fleet the diesels have the 12-speed iShift (automatically shifted manual, or AMT), and our natural gas trucks have either Allisons or Eaton 10-speed AMT's. There are only 3 trucks left in our yard with manuals, and they're 2007's with nearly 2 million miles on the clock.

But trying to float 'em will give you VERY ugly sounds from the tranny. Most truck drivers can't drive a standard 4-wheeler to save their butts, and I'm one of them. Habits die hard.

That's a 1948 Diamond T. Looks like this, I think...
There's still some A-model KW's running around, but round headlights are easier to install on 379/389 Peterbilts because they mount on pods.Big Don, LoneCowboy and jess4040 Thank this. -
I can't say I've ever tried that, or wanted to, but I can imagine you're correct.Gearjammin' Penguin Thanks this.

That's interesting, several types of transmission speeds, didn't know they went down to 10 speed, again, what do I know, I have a lot to learn. I've driven school buses with 1 million miles on them, just love diesels !! Wish cars lasted that long.
