In one of my threads I asked about chains for cable reels and others said I should be using some sort of blocking, bracing, etc. I saw a picture of a load of the same cables and it looked like that driver had 4 X 4s on each side of the reel. I have seen the 4 X 4s used on pipe and they are secured by the pipe strapped down on them but how would the 4x4s be secured with a load of cable reels?

Here is a link to my other thread. http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...rucking-forum/267195-securement-question.html

I occasionally haul concrete pipe. I lay dunnage on the deck and have some 6x6's cut into triangles that I nail into the dunnage as blocking. If I don't use dunnage I nail it to my nailing strip on the trailer.

Scaffold nails are helpful. Their double head makes it easy to pull them out.

I'll look but I don't think I have any pictures.

empty 4x4 in fornt, offset spools so they sit inside of each other 4x4 and back of last one
loaded 4x4 in front and behind each spool

Wouldn't chains pulling forward and back at a 45* angle accomplish the same goal?

it would, but i would do both chains as well, esp with loaded. you can have too much securimet. and if the + in the middle is straig i would prob throw 2 strps just fbecuase i can

I agree on the never having too much securement. Everyone thought I was rediculous using two chains on the empty reels in the middle.

Yep cause it's our butts on the line when something fails. Trouble for me is I am an hourly employee in the oil field. Replacements are a dime a dozen and if you've seen my other posts on here I'm lucky to have gotten such a good local job let alone driving again so I can't take too much time doing more then my boss thinks is needed. I think they call that being stuck between a rock and a hard place.

in that case 2 straps and a chain in the middle, fast, easy and overkill
