Random thoughts on a snowy afternoon in MN

It was an interesting day here today, roads really stunk up the place this morning but improved dramatically as the day progressed. A partner in crime made a contact with a direct shipper and pulled a short load today for them. Cautiously optimistic about that. Been hauling some 7-9 dollar a mile short haul freight and just deadheading back for more of late and made a broker connection that will add some money back for the deadhead.

Today in a nutshell. My truck was at 2.70 all miles and I ate breakfast at home and supper as well. Only an 875 dollar day though. Reefer.

Partner in crime's truck was at 2.81 today on 365 miles for a 1025 dollar day. Reefer. (I could do better but chose not to)

Jack of all trade's truck was at 2.19 today on 456 miles for a 1000 dollar day. Step deck. (he had to come home)

Funny guy's truck finally moved after being stuck in Cheyenne, WY since Tuesday. Under a load paying 2.39 a mile on 1254 miles. (nothing to write home about)

FNG's truck is sitting loaded at the shop and when delivered on Monday will be at 3.46 per mile. (good day)

None of these are bad rates and include ALL miles, deadhead, loaded, ALL miles.

They are however not yet where we want to be. All broker loads but one. All repeat business for a LONG time now except for the direct shipper and the broker to aid the deadhead.

It can be done, and yes, I believe rates are depressed right now.

Just got a text from "partner in crime" , tells me he is at 3.61 per mile gross and 3.14 after our percentage. It can be done.

Make only correct choices. You only get one opportunity to make a first impression.....

No longer snowing but been raining plenty this afternoon. Really ready for spring.

 

Today? Only rain here today. Not real pleasant out, however.

 

Been challenging enough to lift my ever widening derriere off the couch........even to make the long arduous trek to the fridge.....
