You have to report trucks that are leased on to you because you are the responsible carrier. Even though they maintain their own trucks your still in charge of safety and have to hold them accountable for their maintenance because FMCSA will hold you accountable.

sigh, really don't know all speculative. (all audits I walked away with grrreat remarks) The State Admin records audit by DOT, they asked a lot of questions with simple replies. What they did ask for was fuel receipts on a specific day/trip where I had fueled on an Indian Reservation, mom n pop operation in New York, large difference in fuel cost purchases when compared to non-reservation fuel purchases. Oddly @ that Fuel stop on that specific date, I recalled a NY State Trooper observing truckers fueling. Trooper possessed a stalkers eyes, it appeared that the Trooper was also recording truckers fueling. Knowing that the Fuel Stop was legal, but curious situation since I also heard stories from truckers whom say its illegal. I fueled, used credit cards to purchase and recorded my fuel stop. Again, really don't know what triggered the audit...just speculative
