I was referring to this cbdoctor in the thread below. Haven't seen him since this post. These guys don't need to come here and be told about CB by a bunch of hams that maybe piddle with CB as a hobby. They've been doing this stuff for years, made their living at it, and they are good at it!! Why would they hang around and take the abuse and ridicule?? It's our loss, not theirs. It just made me mad knowing another top notch CB Tech is no longer here.

You really need to supply better information than this. What frequency do you have the computer set on? Are both 10.24's correct (with RIT at noon for the one by the side wall). What exactly are all symptoms you are having. Is the 2.2 and 1.3 volts correct. Does the waveform look correct at IC17 pin 13. Keep in mind most often solder joints are the problem, sometimes the 7925, once in a while the 5081.

Hello Outlaw, thanks for responding to my post. both 10.240 xtals are on frequency,I did not scope out the waveform on IC-17. I checked the voltages on most of the IC chip, found very little variation on the voltages on each pin, most of the voltages were spot on the money. I did the PLL alignment on the radio, everything seemed to line up ok, but when I am on 27.185 on the radio readout, the radio is transmitting and receiving on 23 Mhz. I have noticed that some of the single inline IC's seem to be running a little warm. not sure if this is normal. I have changed out the CPU board and the digital readout board, no change in the way the radio works. I will scope the waveform on IC-17 to see how that looks. 73 for now.

BDW passed away a few weeks ago.I never bought into the mod he promoted, I always considered it a hack job but held much respect for his knowledge and his lifetime dedication to the CB hobby. His business practices are a different story.

    RIP Billy Dean Ward.

Could be the 7925 (very likely), or one of the SIP's less likely. But do not change IC's until very thorough bad solder testing/looking is done as most often it is in this area unlock is found. Your CPU has nothing to do with this problem there is only free running going on in the VCO sections somewhere.

I'll miss CBDoctor, we had a lot of fun on CBTricks arguing over the years.

"Thank you for posting! This should only take a few minutes, though sometimes its a few hours. We appreciate your patience."

I swear I'm not crazy, this was post 15 a while ago.

I guess your on your own with that ranger I'm not typing all that advice I just posted but did not appear all over again. One would think the post I just a minute ago made would not appear to be spam since I posted no links and am logged in, registered, with many non spam posts over weeks already? Interesting it posted this but not my prior further help for kc8pcl.

WOW.......I didn't know!! I figured he just left like AB7IF did. I don't know about his mod. Never had it done. Just knew he was one of the old pioneers of he 70s CB boom and had been around forever.

My thoughts and prayers for the family!................(kind of puts things in perspective when things like this happen.....Condolences to all the victims and families in Colorado as well!!!......very tragic)

OUTLAW: I keep getting that little msg as well. So far everything I've posted as shown up though. I figured my little rant above wouldn't get posted and might get me in trouble, but it didn't????? I think something is wrong with their spam guard as this msg just started popping up recently.

With the advice that managed to make it here you should be able to fix the problem, i.e., be sure no cold solder joints first then try replacing the 7925B before going on to any other areas. In the hundreds I have repaired one or the other usually was the fix.
