Rapid deceleration being recorded?

A baby sitter doesn't control a child actions... A baby sitter, typically observes then reports to the parents. The child could bounce off the wall the whole time... hmm?

What I do know, is that some silly drivers with meager heads do need these recording devices to highlight trouble spots.... heck, some drivers even welcome these recording devices.

On the other hand, some drivers don't need them at all. They let their record speak for itself.... Not out of fear, but out of pride and commitment.

 

So, 1 million+ safe miles of moving loads isn't a report card? Again, it's not fear it's pride. There are plenty of careers that allow a boss to stand over your shoulder... Again, I agree... some may need this scrutiny, others may not.

 

Swallow your pride and realize these are protecting driver's jobs in a lot of cases....especially in the case of preventing frivilous lawsuits from criminals trying to scam the trucking companies. It has nothing to do with fear, it has to do with protecting the companies financial viability so they can continue to operate and thus drivers will continue to have a job. Think outside your ego.

 

For some, thats easier said than done...

 

Again, your record can stand by itself, if there is no reason for a controlling action to take place... an untarnished record can also fight a frivilous lawsuit and expose these criminals.... Hence, I keep my job and my pride. The best of both worlds.

Think about it, the company could use the money they spend on the people they hire to analyze the recorded data to upgrade to high quality tires for the fleet, something that could actually have an impact on safety.

 

If all decisions were made on the past then we would be way behind of where we are today. Regardless of your previous record, a video of said criminals in the act is going to stand up better than how many loads you've safely delivered without a boo boo. It's also going to show that teenage girl pulled out in front of you and didn't even look your way before your 18-wheeler cut her car in half and sent her sailing into the median. It's there for your protection...NOT to be your big brother and tell you how to drive.

You can have 1,000 atta boys and all it takes to screw that up is one oops. It doesn't matter how great your record is, was, shoulda/coulda/woulda been. The proof is in video recording and black boxes.

 

If your record speaks for itself you'll never know about these reports. It's that simple.Thats why mostt drivers don't care if their is a corporate policy to use those numbers.


And there are at least two "million milers" on here that make statements like" Move them out of the way". You'll forgive me if I discount any unverified records.


Do you really believe they are buying cut rate tires or brakes so they can monitor driver behavior? Wow. I know you let your emotion rule you but stop and think about that for a minute.


By the way in the two companies I ever worked for that monitored those numbers it was computer generated and your DM was responsible for notifying either safety or personnel of your status. Maybe they should for go dispatchers to buy fuel. Makes as much sense as your other statement.

 

Really? Is this becoming a major problem? Cars stopping in front of trucks in hope of them rear ending them to collect money?
Sounds like you and others on here are grasping at straws.
ABC's 20/20 did a story years ago about killer trucks, while filming they had a car in front of a truck, the truck never would "tailgate" them so they hit the breaks to show how the truck was "running them down" problem was the cars break lights were shown in the bumper of the truck. Looks like the killer truck story is still alive and well. Like I said most of these 68mph or less companys want that "high tech" crap in there trucks, but the only ones there tailgating are each other. Every one else is long gone.

 

The more high tech crap you add, the dumber the driver can be.

 

If it's about protection from lawsuits. Then all that is needed is a forward facing camera. If the driver is in an accident then the video is downloaded. There is no need for monitoring the braking habits of a driver.

If you don't trust your drivers or employees to do the right thing, then its time to replace said drivers and employees.
