Man, I wish I could get my shippers to sign off on this. I'd never have problems moving loads. :)

Probably not, because like I said, that is what would be needed just for me to THINK about it. If they didn't open the negotiations with AT LEAST that as an offer, there would be no negotiations because they aren't worth my time. Why would I waste a week IF everything ran smoothly (which it won't this soon after a major storm) for slightly-above-average line haul rates? It'd be a 2 day drive down, a 2 day drive back, plus waiting around to unload. Not leaving the family for that long unless it is going to be a fat paycheck.

Oh Jesus. It's not THAT bad in FL right now. And FL always sucks this time of year so the hurricane couldn't very well make it worse.

Like seriously 4 bucks a mile is the 'you could come back empty...' line. At that point it's basically impossible for the lane to be anything but very good provided it's more than 400 miles. I'll be happy to admit the market rate is higher than that. It's cool that every trucking company in the spot market is making money right now.

Most of you are like me and grew up poor. The majority of you will go out and buy flashy stuff to show off to your neighbors. Your neighbors unfortunately are made up of the kind of people who drive trucks so inevitably one of them will say "Bob owns two trucks and drives a Benz... Bob's an idiot. If he can do it I can do it!" and start a trucking company. Last time this happened was 2014 and I'm pretty sure we all remember what came next.

Enjoy your feast. You all absolutely earned it and deserve it. I would be absolutely running my ### off right now. This may be one of the 4-5 best times to make money you'll see in your whole career. Make sure you save most of it so that you can survive what comes next. In trucking winter is always coming.

When I was 20, I roped myself to another airman because I had flight deck watch in a typhoon in the Sea of Japan. Think was approximately 50' from the deck to the water line. Some waves crested the deck.

Sure is nice out here in sunny California.

Yeah, we're in different parts of this industry, but I think we can both agree: this sure beats sweating my balls off in a HMMWV turret.

What he said. I've watched rates spike in the last three weeks by about a buck a mile in certain markets. It's nuts.
