Not me I leave on Monday home by Friday. Not chasing freight all over.
After 30 some years I play part time trucker. Usually 1800 to 2k miles a week and gross 5200 to 6k a week I am happy and will let you youngsters go out and run the tall miles I am done with staying out.

    86scotty Thanks this.

I live in Omaha and get good rates out as well. Never more than a 100 mile radius I find good freight. But also been in this market for the last 35 yrs

All the $4+ a mile van loads must be going two blocks away or something

Been owner operator for 8 years running mainly midwest.
Unless thats something like hazmat and 13 stops, no way. I dont believe it.
Reefer maybe on a good day with desperate broker but not Van.

Loads for $2 a mile to Tennessee from there fly off the board from omaha.
Nobody gonna pay that much when drivers lined up to run it for half that amount.

Also not bragging, but in 35years I have made lots of connections and some loads I get don’t hit the boards. I have a good reputation of not being late and taking care of the freight and some brokers I have a multiple decades relationship with.
It’s about building relationships. Work the areas you like to run build those relationships and study those lanes and keep track of the good customers and target those areas. Best way to explain it.
Sometimes I take a load that’s not so hot. but if broker or customer has a good track record of taking care of me I will take it in the backside occasionally.

Not sure what load board you're using, but I just did a search within 250 miles of Omaha for dry van on Convoy and there are 3 loads for Monday at or above $3 per mile heading to Delaware. All one pick one stop, and posted there on a weekend when only the crap loads are leftover from Friday that nobody else wanted. I realize Convoy isn't for everybody and it doesn't work well in some areas, but if they've got loads that you say don't exist, what do the other load boards have? Perhaps you should be looking at different load boards.
