You're certainly right about the shipper having to be dragged kicking and screaming. I really dislike it when the shippers are out of touch with reality. Makes covering loads about 300% more work and smashes the crap out of my margins.

I'm not at your guys level yet. Almost there, but u have a question.
If you get to a customer and you have the opportunity to have a conversation with them..... What's the chance of getting the freight directly from the shipper?
If your the truck that "finally arrived" why not offer your services?
I think alot about doing that when i get my authority, looking around my gone base 500 miles inn a circle and looking for any and every small 2 or 3 door warehouses and walking in like it's the bank and they have a check waiting for me.

You mean backdooring the broker you booked a load from and stealing their customer? If you have no integrity go for it. Then the customer if they would entertain that likely will toss you under a bus as soon as a cheaper options comes around. Just do the legwork yourself and get some legit customers. They were impressed that you were the first truck to show up on time all week but five minutes after you've left they forgot all about you.

That does sound bad. I agree with you it is weong.
I guess what im trying to say is if the agent cant fill the order and the customer is co.plaining about the service. Is it wrong to offer my services? Or eait for the agent to lose the load and hope im nearby to make offer?
Or just run it and dont think about co tinued business with that customer bc the agent wont have it much longer?
I wouldnt under bid someone on purpose and take food out of their mouth. Just so i can make a few bucks.

Before you do that. You need to find out who the brokers customer is.
Is it the shipper or receiver?
Any time either have asked me to haul directly and cut the broker out. Seems their goal is also to cut the brokers % out of the equation and keep my pay the same.
I have always pointed out to the interested party I can not solicit for their transport because I'm under contract with broker.

Yes. I know someone who posts his truck with the following rates in the comment section and he gets calls all day and gets his rates. He says it saves him a lot of time he doesn't get calls for cheap freight, he only gets calls from brokers willing to pay his rates. He has 2 trailers one reefer one dry box both 53 foot. He only runs in a 300 mile radius not going to say where he runs I don't think he would appreciate me sharing that.

    50-100 miles $550-600 minimum
    101-150 miles $650-700 minimum
    151-200 miles $750-800 minimum
    201-300 miles $900-1000 minimum
All Rates are dependent on commodity

There are frequently local runs that come up in the afternoon that customers need coverage for ASAP. I'm sure you could run this model near most decent freight areas in the US. (IN, parts of IL, WI, most of the Southeast, central FL (usually headed to Miami)) You'd end up idle some days, but most days you'd definitely be working. Not the worst way to squeeze the last bit of life out of your equipment if you have a slow driver.

Yeah a decent rate in the morning means no risk of losing a day... Yeah you can make a couple of hundred better in the afternoon, but you're definitely taking on someone elses problem load at the risk of it not happening at all for that money.

Couple hundred more in the afternoon? Lol.. Brokers crack me up. You all encourage carriers to book early and book cheap. I see the exact same comments from brokers on social media every day. It's like you all read from the same playbook. Trucks are surprisingly still tight a week after the 4th so guys don't be selling yourself short out here.
