He was adamant about using straps so I left it alone. Even the tow truck guy suggested chains but to no avail his suggestion didn't work either. I really hope he makes it their safely. When it comes to my life I could careless what a BOL says. If I were a company driver I'd refuse the load if they didn't want me using chains. If it rolls forward or backward it's getting chains. Coils, vehicles, or cable it doesn't matter

    New flatbed drivers, FYI:

If you leave the shipper, all responsibility of the load is on you. ALL RESPONSIBILITY. Now matter what. Anything happens, dunnage walking, load shifting, anything at all, it's ALL on you. No company policy, no Deskjockey pressure, no DOT BS, nothing changes that fact. If you don't like the load, DO NOT LEAVE THE SHIPPER.

I'd like to add that once you sign that bill, it's yours as well. You don't even need to leave the shipper to be made responsible for it, technically. Signing that paperwork releases the load from their "custody".

Why not lay the coils on their side?
Damage, too difficult to remove at receiver?

Speaking of "Rather Odd" shouldn't the PTL trailer in O/P pic be on "it's side" and not upright??? So confusing. :laughing-guffaw:

I call bs too. I've never seen a coil with straps. Who does that?

Loaded shotgun (eye front-to-back) you can put straps over top and chains through the middle. Just some extra securement. But you can't secure a coil entirely with straps... unless it's really light.

Sometimes I see the tarp secured with straps.

@rank you can't tell from the pic but the guy threw straps through the eye of the coils. That what made me get out and ask him about chains because I figured he was a newbie but he said they were "light" aluminum coils so he was only allowed to throw straps
