Hi bbm! My road training has been a freaking nightmare! No one has passed the alabama dmv first time since december! Trainer is .... idk what to say. I have cried every single day back at the room. I dk how much longer I can take the belittlement, beratement, condesending tones. I just want my cdl. I just wanna be trained. Sometimes I feel like he hates me because I am a female. I just don't know what to do. I feel inadequate stupid and out of place. I hate it here! I don't wanna quit trying for my cdl..but I don't know what to do. I talked to dave....well he took me to dave after he yelled at me on the truck one day and I started to cry. He thought I was gonna go "tell" so he beat me to the punch. So dave took me off his truck put me on with ray. I did much better! Then right back on the meanie's truck! Wtf!

id go back to dave or whoever and request to be permanantly put on the other guys truck, he may have it out for u just cause your a female, you shouldnt have to be subjected to that kind of treatmeant!!..im not sure what else u can do though, just hang tough and try to get through it, the OTR with a mentor is no peice of cake either..i would highly suggest you request a female trainer from the start.

    Chick,

I obtained my CDL in 06 in Bama. It is not that hard. Just imagine he is a fellow driver, and if he getsto be too upsetting go to Dave and aask for a 3 way meeting with trainer and dave. Simply explain you do better when not being screamed at. You went there to be trained. This is not the Army or Pison so he needs to treat you with respect. BTW I had a female trainer put me in my place during school when she did all her backing from the running board with me in seat just to hit brakes and shift a real eye opening experiance

Definitely talk to Dave about being moved. The approach to use would be something to the effect of: "I am not learning from (whatsisname) because I feel like I have to walk on eggs. I'm too busy trying to not upset him to actually concentrate on my job of learning. Is there any way I can be placed on Ray's truck for the duration of my training? It was a better learning environment for me and I feel like I was able to succeed with him."

And then yes, request a female mentor. Not saying they will all be any better than a man, but you may feel less intimidated by a woman. Some ladies are better trained by women. You may be one of them.

Thanks a lot everyone. U know I chose swift becuz of the rumor mills..i heard that swift was one of the best training schools. I am gonna do just what u all suggested. Did u all know that I have NEVER EVER EVER driven a stick........wait for it.....and I am left handed! Wait....I got all of 2 hours on the shift pad. Lmfao! Hahaha. Could u guys imagine driving in the uk and having to shift and clutch with the opposite hand and foot. 2 hrs and its a wrap! U better know it cuz were getting on the freeway. Lol! I am sorry but now that I think about it,its so absurd its comical!

ok, after 8 days out here with mentor I am sitting at 36 hours of BTW time..i was hoping for a little more by this point, but it is what it is. I can already tell there are some aspects of this Job that are going to irratate the #### out of mr, and some things I really like..as with any Job...what Ive learned so far is, backing in the real world is nothing like at school, close quarters manuevering is very difficult, and I dont like driving between 1 and 4am..lol..also sitting around with nothing to do gets very boring in a hurry..I also learned that floating the gears is much easier than double clutching, but when someone is yelling at me I still suck at it..and that flip flops are a must have when using truck stop showers..all in all, despite minor personality conflicts with my mentor, and missising my family I think this is going pretty well, although I have to admit that I feel at times as though im being used as a way to provide a cheap team driver for my mentor..where i get to do all the stuff he doesnt want to do, but I suppose dues must be paid and the bottom is where we all start..so i will just do what must be done and hope the next 5 weeks goes by quickly so i can get into my own truck, and get my own way of doing things started. While i am learning some useful things, I am keeping a mental list of the way I would do certain things. I have to give these guys some credit though, i dont think I could have inexperianced drivers driving my truck, grinding gears and tearing it up, i can understand somewhat why they are so anal about some things. Bottom line is by the end of this training period, if i have learned to do this job and can do it safely I have accomplished what I started out to do, and the few weeks of unpleasentness i have to go through to get there will just be a drop in the bucket.

We think alike. I could have written this post. I am looking forward to my new mentor and learning something useful.

I just hope that yours is not as bad as one that I had over 20 years ago. I would finish my 10, and get to sleep, and when we arrived at the cons, he would actually wake me up to dolly down the trailer and pull the 5th wheel pin. Asked him why, and he said that I needed to learn. Had to help hand unload a trailer one load, he took off, left me in the trailer, and then he kept all of the unloading fee. Again, was told, need to learn. We lasted two weeks before I turned him in.
