Thinking about getting back into the game running my own authority.

So what are rates like nowadays since the economy tanked? I would like to hear what you are seeing and more importantly getting.

Van, Flat, what ever. Just want to see realistic rates for o/o's not leased to anyone these days.

    Thanks in advance.

To be honest, rates are all over the place. I pull a reefer, but most of my loads are dry van stuff. There's a decent disparity in rates from different parts of the country. I've seen rates for van/reefer under a buck a mile to over two bucks a mile.

Sorry I'm not much help, but I'm still trying to make heads or tails of this market myself!:biggrin_25526:

Just a newbie here to the sight and trucking, but i heard the avg rate outside the GTA is $1.20 a mile and within GTA is $32 hr. Does that sound about right to anyone??

I have seen flatbed and step deck loads as low as $0.89 and over $4/mile. Most seem to average around $1.60-2.25/mile.

Right now I am pulling loads that go 150 miles for 625, last week I pulled 1400 miles for 3400 after that was a 380 mid run for 800. Rates are all over but in the end the rate is completely up to you. When I hear a $1 a mile quote I inform them that I can't run that and move on. If you are a carrier out there ######## about low rates stop taking them if the freight sits long enough the price goes up until someone takes it. If it doesn't make money don't ALLOW them to put it in YOUR trailer.

My favorite line now is "I can make better than that doing Power Only with JBH and you are offering me less pulling my trailer."

Getting a little grumpy these days.

That's priceless! LOVE IT! What kind of a response do you get? Or do they just stutter after you tell them that? :biggrin_2559::biggrin_25525:

Most laugh and say the rate is low. Couple are grumpy and one kid tried to tell me JBH would never pay more than this (it was at $1.40).

Just said "OK Sparky, have a good Thanksgiving."

    bullhaulerswife Thanks this.
