First I’ll say this having a new or nice truck doesn’t always equate to making money. Honestly in car hauling if the equipment is mechanically sound and doesn’t brake down. I could care less how it looks if I’m not buying it. Being a union driver that would be my train of thought, because if it brakes your on the clock until it’s fixed or they find you a loaner. Trust me either way it’s $$ in your pocket.
NU car explained it but let me also say this. When you dispatch at the bottom of the board it’s not always bad. Especially if the terminal you run out of has long freight. Really your just picking a load last and it may be something no one wants because the dealerships are in horrible locations or the units are in two different pick up yards or the closest back haul is 3 hours the other way etc. honestly it doesn’t matter to me. At the bottom I just pick and ride because more than likely I’ll get empty and be reloading with those same guys who are going in my direction. The best thing you can do as a car hauler is find a routine and stick to it. It’s the same as an athlete who has a go to move when s/he needs to score. Your routine is your go to when you need to make money except you use it everyday.
Like NU car said location is everything in car hauling, if you live near dealerships that your company services you can be home often, if you live near a plant your company picks up from you can be home often, if you live in a service lane you can be home often, if none of the above exist your going to be on the road until you can get a load home, some times that’s a couple days or weeks just depends on the company.
I’ll tell you this once you find the right company you won’t ever wanna leave.
Realistic gross as a o/o
