Very true I used to drive and drop equipment off for a construction company I worked for get stopped then help them for hrs on end way past the 14hrs
so its after 8hrs from the time you start you can't drive but you can work till you have a 30min break then after 14hr from the time started you can work but you can't drive.
I was just trying to keep it simple I mean lets not get into taking a split sleeper and such its truly is a pain to keep up with it all and they keep making it harder. LOL -
This may be the place for this, another dumb question, about driving time. I see lots of references to "recap". What the heck is a recap and what does it do to your driving hours? Sorry, I said it was a dumb question!
-
one of you is talking per shift, the other is talking per 24 hours.
Technicaly you could pretrip at midnight. Drive at 12:15am. Stop for 30 at 8am. drive untill 11:45 Am. Take a 10 hour break. At 21:45 you will have a full set of hours. So technicaly you could drive more then 11 n 24 hours, but since your last 10 hour break only 11. -
I fail to see what it is you are pointing out. I included a pretrip during the first shift at 11:45 THE PREVIOUS DAY. Then included another at the start of the second shift.

There is no regulation regarding 24 hour periods, the 11/14 rules are per shift.

Recap are the hours you start getting back on the 8th day of work after a 34 hour reset. For instance if you shut down at 2200 with 4 hours left on your 70, but 8 days ago you worked 10 hours you will get those 10 hours back at midnight giving you 14 hours on your 70. You must still take a 10 hour break, but you can roll a full day after.

You guys are making it too complicated for someone with no clue.
Simple terms;
If you start your day at 0600. You cannot drive past 2000. Between 0600 and 2000 you can drive a maximum of 11 hours. You must take a 30 minute break logged off duty after your 4th hour but before your 8th hour of on duty.
So going back to a start time of 0600 you must do a 15 minute pretrip on line 4, on duty not driving. When this is done you have 13 hours 45 minutes on duty and 11 driving available.
Sometime between 1001 and 1400 you must stop and log off duty for 30 minutes. If you stopped at 1200 for lunch you would have driven 5 hours and 45 minutes leaving you 5 hours 15 minutes on your drive time and 8 hours on duty not driving. -
If the HOS is too complicated for someone to understand they may not be smart enough to be a truck driver. It's not rocket science. It's simple 4th grade math.
-
Obviously you need to read up on it if you think you can log 13.25 hrs driving during your shift.Im not talking about a 10 hr brk then start back up.You post made it sound like you can drive 13.25 during your 14 hrs.No need to add all that other mumbo jumbo and simplfy the hos during a 14 hr period.
