Reality check, please. Is this a realistic expectation?

some companies count passing CDL school as one year experience. I know Schneider did.

Just go do your year at Schneider here in town. You should also go down to the local and inquire about getting on with ABF or USF. They do take new guys.

    Fedex you gotta know somebody.

UPS is an excellent path, but you will do 4 to 5 years in the warehouse first.

Given the choice of UPS or FedWrex, I’d pick UPS.

Cemex even took two kids green, green green, when I was there, but they were friends of somebody.

Veteran and you've worked in the prison system...

Do you have any friends with contacts in private security? The reason why I ask is because there are many fatcat types out there with phobias of flying (like John Madden), and so they do the stagecoach thing all over North America. They usually require a CDL and either military or police background. It's not glamorous, it's just work, and odds are that you will be dealing with an A Hole for a VIP, but there is a market for drivers.

Talk with your friends first. See if they have any contacts that can get your foot in the door. Don't go trucking and then try private security later. The longer you are out, the smaller your contact list will be.

    Luck in battle.

Very doable. Might take a couple years, maybe 3, till you can write your own ticket. Meanwhile, still plenty of decent Jobs available. The best part, is you’ll be in big demand. Starting after about 6 mos. increasing from there on. More doors opening, more choices. It’s not the easiest Job, I’m sure you have realistic expectations at your age. Good time to make the move. You won’t regret it. Training is relatively short, compared to many Trades. Good Luck.
