I read a lot of this because I want to know more about oil field jobs. I did not read every post but after 30 or 40 of them, it looks pretty grim.
You guys are talking about some very long hours and high stress to maybe make 1500/week and then get sent home for possibly weeks at a time between jobs.

Wouldn't a lot of local jobs pay that much or more? - the ones where you got to unload yourself and work some long hours. At least that is reliable work. Anyone can get a job at Mclane starting at about $13-1500/week, home every day, 3 days/week off, good benefits, etc.

The easiest work is OTR and anyone can get a job paying that much. A lot of OTR companies are paying over 50cpm plus bonuses and other pay and have long, leisurely runs. That is very easy money compared to what you guys are talking about.

As for home time, it makes a huge difference where you live. I sleep in my own bed at least 12 nights/month, only have to drive 2000 miles/week and I get the low-stress OTR experience.

Maybe if oil booms again I'll go do it. but from reading threads like these it really doesn't look very good. There are much easier and more reliable ways to get the wage you need.

After you subtract medical and dental benefits plus taxes you'd be lucky to see half of that.

You are right. Not for 1500 week. I don't think we'll see the 3-4 thousand a week again.

These are benefits so why should he pay that?

I guess it all depends on how desperate he is to put someone in the driver's seat

I want to switch to the patch, I would like to switch in a month. I’ve been talking to different companies. I currently don’t live in TX, that’s not an issue with me tho. I don’t have a family. What is the best region to run? @ 3 years driving experience is all I’m coming in with. Any help would be appreciated

Midland / Odessa / Monahans .. possibly look into New Mexico Hobbs area ..
they have been busy over there even when the SHT F.
Other potential area is around Big Lake, couple chemical companies recruiting there, as well as some Roustabout , and C&J) ; further east you have san angelo (mostly Sand Trucks, and Sunnoco for oil).

    Heathar Thanks this.

Find housing before your move or bring something with you. The travel trailer is the official mascot of the oil patch.
