Yes, I just need help keeping it in perspective. I understand what he's doing and I know that the guy really cares that I am the best driver he can make me. There is a reason they keep the cranky old guy around to teach us noobs. :biggrin_25525:

    jesus, you scratch gears..??

    so do i. who cares?

taking a corner too short or wide? sometimes i miss judge a turn, as long as neither of us hit anything, so what?

try backing off a street in downtown Boston, like me, 5 nights a week.

think i'm on target each time some moron passes me on my blindside and there is only enough space between us, before i cream him or he sideswipes the parked cars? talk about a lot of "MIRROR USAGE THEN"!!!

now stopping on a mountain road, well that is something you do not want to do, just go into the next highest gear, it'll lug down, but from there, you can always downshift.

    again, NO ONE is perfect.

    stop your worrying.

i challenge your trainer to actually prove he's as perfect as he says.

betcha he's hit things, just never reported it.

    i think we all have.

I just finished my 1st week with a trainer....When we pulled in to the lot Friday and got off of the truck she said we needed to talk befor leaving for time off...She ask if I was going to be with her next week...I told her as far as I knew...She said she was asking because one day I said something about her being a little moody and needing to get some rest that night...She was worried I would complain about her...Had not crossed my mind...She was just tired that one day and needed some rest...If the company is a good company you should be able to talk with the trainer and work out the issues...If that does not work you should be able to get a different trainer without worrying about your job.

Luckily, I got a trainer that would let me do my thing until I did something wrong, or until I asked. When I was in school, we had one instructor that was a dick. He would sit there, watch you like a hawk, and correct every little thing you did, driving, or non-driving related. He was just an all around miserable dude. I noticed that when he was the instructor, I drove worse than when we had an easy going, relaxed instructor. I eventually developed the mindset that I wouldn't give him a reason to say #### to me. Prove him, and his opinion wrong by getting better.

I wouldn't be surprised if we were talking about the same guy.

I am of the thinking that some but not all, trainers are strictly in it for the money they make on the backs of the newbies. Sad, but I do believe it is true.

A good trainer will criticize a newbie for doing things wrong, and praise when things are done correctly.

The biggest beef I have with trainers is their experience level. If memory serves me right, Swift was having rookie driver, with less than say 3 months driving for them, become driver-trainers??

This is with out a doubt the dumbest thing I had ever seen. It wreaks of the old saying, "The blind leading the blind".

Every trucking company that has driver-trainers, ought to have at the very least a requirement of 5 years FULL experience, which includes chaining up tires.

Now, I myself don't even know how to remove a set of chains off of the tractor where they are hanging, much less put them on, and I care not, at my age, to want to learn.

But, if I had a driver-trainer back in my day, that taught me how to install chains, I'd had been better for it.

Today's driver-trainers care not (in some general ways) of actually educating the newbies, and as a result, ought to be fired (for thier conduct or lack of skills) or put back into service as a driver.
