I have never had any trouble with the dot and believe me I have spoke to many. But when it comes to asking them a question concerning what I may think is an illegal practice,I won't take the chance asking an officer about it.I have however called one guy in piticular.Hes the head of Iowa FMCSA.I have him on my contact list.Hes always been good about returning my calls.

I needed help with the HOS issue. I did not need to know how other drivers are able to drive 3,000 miles straight blind folded on 2 hours of sleep so my complaint about a full 10 is silly. Thanks to those that helped without the chest beating.

Hey Rubber Duckie...........if you're still out there, there are a lot of companies that don't call and order you around while you're driving; maybe you should look for one of those before these guys get you killed?

I used to go straight to the sleeper on my logs at shippers/receivers, then log 15 minutes at the end to appease the DOT GODS. If I was heading to a truck stop unloaded afterwards, I logged it as off duty. Never had a problem. Safety called me in once to ask what I was doing because the Qualcom showed the truck moving with me off duty when they scanned my logs. I told them straight up that I wasn't wasting duty time to go shower and eat. My fleet manager and dispatcher agreed with me and stepped in..............no worries.

Rubber Duckie........... you work your logs the way you think you need to, but there are times where you may need to compromise. Hard to make a living with a truck wasting all your duty time. This forum is full of drivers that run very safe working in situations like yours.

Ty all for the advice. I agree that wasting time is foolish, however

A ) This cuts into my sleep time and they ask me to log unloads as part of my 10 constantly.

Yesterday they claimed I could use a 19 minute od period as both unload and post trip and said this was totally legal. They did this so a post trip later could be wiped out and the remainder of the unload unlit to be able to use the drive to the truckstop as off duty 10 time. When you start running low on time they call you to go over your pre and posts and shorten within the last week to get time back. I just don't know about these guys. Its not about a moral high ground. This company is currently at 100% prepass pull in rate for this ############ month and the government gets enough of my money.
