Yes that was essentially the scenario in my original post, but after learning about Samsara's split sleeper toggle just now, I am pretty sure not having it turned on was the problem, not the scenario. The reason I suspected the scenario was causing the problem was that it can be confusing, since it uses a normal, full rest break as part of a split sleeper berth break. Without knowing about that nutty toggle, it was the only thing I could think of.

I see. I think Omnitracs had a toggle too called "will pair with SB"

I know J.J. Keller ELD doesn't show how much drice/on-duty time is available until a driver ends their break...and how does a driver end their break?...by going from sb to off, sb to on, or sb to drive...or by going from off to on or off to drive.

Yes it did, but I think it may have been there for a different reason than Samsara's. There can be multiple candidates for the short rest portion of a split, and Omnitracs let (or maybe even required that) the driver select which one they wanted to use.

Here's what Samsara says, in a clumsy, verbose way:

This explains why the app wasn't pausing my 14. When I turn the toggle on, I'm pretty sure it will pause the clock whenever it's supposed to.

Thanks again for mentioning it. If I still encounter problems after turning on the toggle I'll report back, but I doubt there will be any (not even when the long rest portion is 10+ hours).

By the way, Canada's approach is way better in my opinion. There's no need for any toggle.

Its a samsara thing.. ive run other elds that did it automatically. On samsara you have to go into setting and make sure its on and then there is toggle box on the logbook itself... I wish i could show u but i no longer have access to samsara
