We ARE MOVING! Bluebonn how was the Crue? 600 mile trip and he is like a fat kid in the candy store. Still glad I bought the hot dogs that were on sale this week. 3 teens and one preteen boys will eat you out of house and home!

sometimes when you first go solo they are easy on you just to see how you will do--tell him to hang in there--it will get better. This week has been bad for me too which is unusual--i hardly sit anytime except for my 10 hour sleeper time but i have sat almost 3 days this week. It will get better though -- tell him dont give up. It will get better. Good luck to yall!

There is always a good chance you'll sit for a day or two in Texas, California, Flordia just to name a few. Some parts of the country consume more freight than they produce. It is a learning curve. Two weeks ago I ran over 3000 miles, this week I just broke 1200... Also there is pay for layover and detention... Check with DM and see how to get it. If you feel you qualify for either, say so in a free form to your DM... Swift would rather let you run than pay you to sit.

Freight is hit & miss right now ( lot of stuff that was headed to Michigan is on hold as a result of the storms that hit this week ) and being the weekend does not help things.

it could be that since swift is a large carrier ,they probably have so many other drivers that has been sitting in the same areas that he is in ,well before he arrived to his consignee,it happens at a lot at large companys

Swift will let you sit as long as they can and when you ask for layover or detetion pay they tell you after 2 days they will pay you

Lot of places do that not just SWIFT. According to Jerry Moyles the NEW BREED of DRIVER wants to much and will not put up with the stuff drivers in the past never questioned. Heres part of an interview he did.
How should a carrier treat its drivers?
I've been in this business for 45 years and the number one problem has always been drivers. It's not going to change. For us to solve this, we've got to give them a lot more money. It's still a very difficult job, even though I believe the job itself is getting much better because they aren't required to unload like they used to and the equipment is getting so much better. The offset of that is that we aren't getting the driver that's the old trucker anymore, it's the opposite of that: it's the new kid that's coming off the street. He wants all these different benefits and he's just not willing to work in the way that the older driver is. The industry has to look at that: number one, we have a different driver we gotta take care of ' he has different attitudes and different wants ' and number two, we gotta pay him more money.Last edited: Mar 17, 2012
scottied67 Thanks this. -
Shuttling empties for swift now. Running is running though. Had to laugh with him though. He asked if me and the kids could move to Texas. He thinks he has been there long enough to declare residence. Cracks me up!
