I used to own a KW with a 8V92TA and I rebuilt that engine and probably did install the seals like you said, but it's a long time ago and I can't remember. However, there's no way I'd install CAT seals without the correct installer!

CAT seals have a steel wear ring built into the seal and putting it in with a hammer would be trouble. Like Oz said, without the correct installer that pushes the seal/wear ring evenly and to the correct depth, I wouldn't even attempt any other method.

I borrowed the installer off CAT because I bought all the parts off them. Lucky the 3408 front and rear installers are same as C15 / 3406.
