I realize blind loads are not illegal but when you pick up a load in texas and it's going to georgia but it's billed out of ohio and your companies dispatcher and the broker of the load both tell you to keep quiet and not give any info about the load, then that seems a little fishy to me. Now the other side of that coin is, you get pulled into a weigh station in louisiana and dot checks your bills and logs and the officer has no knowledge of what a blind load is but he has sense enough to know that louisiana isn't on the route from ohio to texas. Even though logs are true and current, he is now suspicious of what your hauling. Blind loads may not be illegal but they are a pain in the butt.
Reasons i hate blind loads!!!

I had a direct customer who did that all the time. DOT knows why these loads are blind. I haven't had a problem before.
In case others don't know why. The shipper (the one on the blind bill) bought the product and doesn't want the receiver to know that it didn't get shipped from their warehouse.Mattflat362, motocross25, shogun and 2 others Thank this. -
I won't touch mystery stuff, anymore. My company puts 300% blame on the driver when things go wrong whether you're put out of service at a coop, you have an improperly secured load, hazmat with wrong BOL/placard info, etc. If I'm not allowed to inspect and verify the load/securement/matching paperwork, I call Dispatch and it stays right where I found it.

I don't touch it either. They can fire me. Or it goes to Ohio and fire me there.

You don’t touch anything anymore.Crude Truckin', Tb0n3, wore out and 5 others Thank this.

They aren’t that bad. You can tell the cop where it came from and where it’s going. You have the pick up bills as well as the delivery bills

If you don't understand how blind BOL's work then leave to those that do. More for us.
During regulation you would leave CA with produce(exempt)without even knowing what state you were going to. Produce broker would say take 80 (or 40) and call in the morning. When he sold the load, then you knew where it was going. BOL's always had the produce brokers address.bryan21384, IH Truck Guy, Ruthless and 5 others Thank this. -
I always had the pick up bills also, and destination. Why even bring the subject up thats its a blind shipment? Too much information talk just adds for more explanations .Humblepie Thanks this.

A few years ago when doing dry van, we used to blind load cardboard recyclables for city C, town H loaded it and BOL said receiver in city C. Climb back in the cab and a magical new BOL gets written up with city P as the new receiver.
Only once was it a double blind, receiver in town H shipped the load to city C, we took it to city P instead and the receiver in city P thought it came from city A. Confusing ####. -
Lots of the stuff I do is blind. It's not hard to show the DOT guy your load info in the email or text if questioned about being outta route. Blank BOL forms are still sold and accepted everywhere. Fill one out.
