I've only blown two. Both on trailers. Keep an eye on tire pressure is all

there is this central inflation system upgrade for $1500 offered among others by the utility dealer. Maybe it is not such a bad thing in the long run.

To add to that, if you roll the tire around with your fingers rubbing along the top 3" of the sidewall and you feel a bump that tire has had ply separation. If you look inside there should be a section patch. If not then place that edge on the bottom and push down on the tire. Most likely you will find a crack in the liner.

I would not run a tire that has had a separation like that. The bump will be vertical on the sidewall.

I used to collect casings for sale and had to learn how to pick the good ones. My current truck came with caps on the drives. Going to run them down to about 4/32 then run them out on the belly dump.

Another thing is that a cap will have a new dot date stamp every time they are capped. The most I have seen is three so that tire was on its third cap.

i didn't read threw this entire thread so sorry if it was already said

but i don't necessarily have anything against caps. iv run a few not many but never had any problems with them, however when you compair the cost to a cheap Chinese virgin, that's what i would run.

sometimes you can get a good deal on on some pretty darn good used tires. and ill do that occasionally on my trailers. i run a pretty mixed bag on my trailers anyhow. ill run out my old steer tires back there or finnish off some old scabs sometimes ill pickup some non repairable damage on a my gravel trailer tires, and grab some pretty decent used tires for a good price.

my biggest problem with caps is the rubber compound tends to be softer and they seem to get chewed up pretty fast on gravel roads. i do have a couple of my old steer tires on one trailer that are about used up for the trailer, i have been thinking of having them caped though as the casings still look flawless.

my neighbor out at my shop has a few 6x6 bucket trucks last year maybe even 2 years ago he had a bit of a alignment problem on one so he got it all aligned and put 10 new tires on it, i bought his old tires from him for $35 each most being 80% tread life left the fronts were worn a little funny but that doesn't matter much on a trailer.

The math is pretty hard to beat on Recapping your own casings once and only once .....

And I still get like $50 casing credit to turn in the cap . (11R 24.5 H)

Was that a capped tire by any chance?
