    Hello fellow truckers

I recently got out of cdl school and I am actively seeking local positions. I’m in the philadelphia area and I’m willing to commute for the right opportunity. do you guys know any local positions that will hire with no experience? If you know some places than feel free to lmk.

The best and quickest way to get a local job is to go OTR for a couple of years. New drivers don't have that many options right now because freight isn't at its peak and many companies have slowed or stopped training altogether. Some guys have been able to get local jobs right out of school in the past. Those instances even in a good freight market is few and far between. They either knew someone, as in your case, or they were just plain lucky. Right now, since your connection was let go, it's going to be difficult to land a local job. I won't say it's impossible, but the odds are not in your favor. Lots of drivers want to work local or regional. Companies are looking at experienced drivers, with endorsements, and a spotless driving record. That's going to be your real competition. If you can swallow up OTR for the short term(1 to 2 years), then you can land a quality local gig til you retire. You need some experience under your belt. Til that occurs, you won't have a whole lot of options.

I don’t mind going the otr to much, but i don’t think I’ll need years of experience just to do local. shouldn’t 6 months be enough?

Check on Indeed.com for what's open local. Put in entry level CDL delivery.

6 months is nothing at all. You're still in year 1. That will only open up a couple more OTR companies. As I alluded to earlier, you're up against a lot of CDL Holders that have lots of experience, and want the same thing you want. Insurance at a lot of jobs require minimum 1 year. All I said is 1 to 2 years. 1 year is the minimum to open up more opportunities. Occasionally people in your situation get lucky. Don't listen to the testimony of a handful of drivers that managed to get local jobs early on. They had a connect or they got lucky. Overwhelmingly, majority of the time, new drivers gotta grind to get the good jobs. We all gotta pay dues somewhere.

Since you're in Philly, check out NFI. I can't remember how are past the Delaware River you gotta commute to get to them, but see how much experience they require. Then it will give you some direction for your next gig.
