This is informative
Dude, halfway through you mentioned you had a felony, if it was for drugs or theft....yeah that could be an issue. I'm new to this, but from someone on the outside looking in....if I had multiple applications come across my desk in a day, and I had to look them over, I'd take the ones with clean backgrounds and NO felonies over the ones with spotty backgrounds and past felonies first. Thats not me being discriminatory, thats me screening applicants. If I were in charge of a bank and someone had a 12 year old conviction for high dollar theft or embezzlement would I consider hiring them....no. If I were a pharmacy and someone had a drug conviction 12 years ago would I hire them....no. In my former line of work my old boss wouldn't even consider hiring anyone with a blemish on their record, we dealt exclusively with high dollar corporations, and expensive private clientel, and if something happened and it came out that the person who messed up had a record....yeah it would have cost the business 10x's more in just the bad word of mouth then anything else.
There is no way to distinguish applicant a and b when you are looking at paper. Yeah ok you have a twic, hazmat, and whatever else....but the fact of the matter is these comapnies are going to take the people with a clean background over the ones with spotty ones everytime. Doesn't matter if its from a year ago or 15 years ago, if it shows up when they run a background check they do and will use it against you....not just in trucking, but in any line of work. Even though they 7 it has to be X amount of years old.....again Applicant A who also has Twic, Hazmat vs Applicant B with twic and Hazmat.....Applicant A has a 12 year old felony.....Applicant B has a clean background......I'm calling B to offer the job every single time. Sorry, but thats the way it is. -
