You'll have several job offers. All the tanker outfits have stuff going on in LA and terminals there. They're good for $60K - $65K per year.

Many times if you show up to a terminal in person, looking clean & neat, they will hire you for local.
100's of tanker companies in LA that do local work such as fuel or chemicals. Walk in and ask for an application and interview. It works many times!

Trimac has a terminal in Geismer, as does Superior and someone else I can't remember. Anyway, Trimac will hire a rookie for local positions if one is available. Trimac is very terminal centered meaning each terminal is basically their own company. You need to call and talk to the terminal manager. Geismer is a big terminal so perhaps they are in need.

Trimac would be a great place for you, especially starting out. Superior is good too. Put a thread up in the tanker section for more detailed answers.

OTR is where you get your experience from, from driving in weather to traffic to breakdowns and bumping docks.....A year or two OTR is worth 10 doing regionals and local runs.....then you will at least begin to know what you don't know yet...

I understand your point but I just don't understand how guys can stay away weeks at a time with a family and house to take care of. Regional is the most im willing to do

Even regional runs will be a problem if your wife is not capable of running the household.... You have to understand that your job is on the road and her job is to run the house and pay bills etc...... You can't survive on the road if you have to drive 10 hrs a day and miss rest to pay bills or find a plumber. It's a tough transition and I have failed a couple of students because they couldn't focus on the job due to having to call the wife hourly and check up on her and the house....

I'm offered a regional tanker position with Schneider they claim I'll be home 6 days a month and I can pick my off days. Do you think it's true or a recruiting lie?
