Yea, i'm with you. Not everyone has the same experience. DM's can make or break a driver. but i have a legit horror story about Western Express, and i believe it speaks more volumes on how my driver manager treated me, over the way the company did in general. However, with Western Express capitalizing on the perks of being a pro-recruiting company, it opens up the vessels to be filled with a bunch of baddies, and the number of newbies out weighs the personnel's ability to adequately decipher which ones are good and bad recruits. Now..
My story is real, my dad was in ICU, of course before all that, i did have an issue with my DM, and i railed him about my hometime, he started to try and make it better, but his way of making it better one day was by taking an impossible load from me, and giving it to a newbie. It was a load that had a stipulation that wasn't getting fixed by dispatch, the load was too heavy, and who knows how many drivers they sent to the shipping department to load, the gate didn't catch the issue because those loads are pre-planned and given specific numbers. So i knew the drill, and eventually it was obvious that Western Express didn't have a specific permit ready, and didn't even have a trailer with the specs to legally haul the load on the lot, and their were numerous trucks waiting to load. Western Express trucks.
So, that gave my DM the right to suspend my hometime requests in the future, or at least in his mind, because i turned down a load that was being taking away from another driver, because i wasn't going to deny that driver his load. A real DM doesn't have to take a load from another driver, just to get you home.
This post has gotten too long, the rest of the horror story about when my Dad was in the ICU will have to be told at a later date. sorry.

It's said tho, i was taught safety was top priority, but those companies i drove for, safety was the last priority, and the load being delivered was more important than all the driver's lives with the company combined.
