I agree, and that’s why if you want to get paid decent you have to find a niche that the foreigners wearing flip flops and pajamas can’t do .
there are companies that do extensive background investigations on their drivers , the one my neighbor works for extends the background investigation to the drivers siblings and parents and in-laws if they are married .
credit , criminal and driving records of everyone in your immediate family .
also the driver has to be a citizen , that was born in the US .
and you have to drive a 18 speed , no automatics .
of the 30 students in the CDL class at the community college , only 3 were even eligible to fill out the application, the credit and criminal and driving record requirements filtered out 27 of the 30 students .
and 2 of those that were eligible to apply chose not to because it was too much paperwork and required a 6-8 week wait for the results .
company has a NINE MONTH training program, Probabaly to satisfy their insurance requirements, I’m guessing the CDL class counts as three months , so their new drivers have the minimum one year of experience.
the pay is pretty good and the prices on the loads they bid on and haul are not being pushed down by tons of new drivers with their rent to own Chicago based companies trucks, because those types of drivers couldn’t pass the background check to get into the facility to pick up the load .
