REALY ......and what kind of meter did you use .... ?

A 2SC2999 transistor is a higher gain device than the 2SC1674 that is common inmany CB sets.

As for HAMS freebanding have at it Laura Smith would love to talk to you ....

I don't think you are gonna boost your receive enough to be worthwhile. You have a good antenna, a 102" whip is the ultimate mobile antenna, but even with that I'm not sure you would gain a whole lot. My thoughts are it is what it is. In a mobile application your are doing about as good as possible. The old Uniden Grant and Cobra 148 have a better receiver in them than most other radios, combine one of them with 102" whip mounted in the middle of your roof and you will be about all you can be.

it depends on the skip too with 10m and 11m too. It's not an open band ALL the time.

TX is transmit. And 10-15 miles is very good for TX & RX for a CB. Most CB's don't TX more than 5-10 miles.

102" Whip vs. your Wilson 5000, I doubt you will be able to "Hear" much difference in reception...

There are what they call "Pre Amps" which supposedly brings the signal in better. But from what I have seen with Pre Amps is about all they do is make the noise louder...not necessarily bringing in the stations better.

There are some mods that can be done to the radio to help the receive, I have a Cobra 29LX that I bought from R&R Communications in Delaware that had the Mod done to it, and the receive is a little better than on my Cobra LXLE in my Suburban...Cleaner, and less static...You can Google R&R Communications and check out their mods for Cobra Radios...They do good work.

Other than trying a different antenna tho, allot of the receiving issues would be how good of a radio you have...Some radios just don't have that good of a receive no mater what you try to do to it...

TackleBox:"I was thinking about getting a 102'' antenna for my Wilson 5000."

Now that's something I would like to see!

because that would throw off the entire design of the antenna and the load coil.

If you have a SWR 1.0, then you can't get it better.

You seem to want more than your system can give. And don't like to hear the real facts from others who know what they're talking about.
