I thought I would come here, and ask since you guys are the pros on the road.....I was going to be a trucker but instead now I am going to be a cabbie....

I am basically looking for a larger screen GPS.....And I would like one that has a nice easy touch screen similar to that of a smart phone....My old Garmin is small, and not very sensitive....I end up mis-tapping buttons constantly......

Also a map that covers both the US & Canada, and one that has automatic updates.....Of course nice price always helps as well......

Thanks guys, keep those trucks a' rollin' !

Find a newer garmin with an LM in the model number. LM denotes lifetime updates.. LMT is lifetime maps and traffic..

    For a cabbie?
Any Garmin or Rand would be fine. They are all similar.

Just know...LMT (lifetime Maps) is the products intended lifetime. Not your lifetime.
Most of that means 2-3 yrs at best for free maps until the unit is EOL/discontinued.

    Many guys get that confused.

Indeed. For the moment.....If they updates are paid, that makes sense.
If they are "free" - they could be discontinued at any time.

Just know that once a product is EOL, there is no more guarantee of LMT.
I'm just trying to point out that lifetime doesnt mean your lifetime.

I lost map updates on my TND 5 that I bought in 12/2009 - about a year ago or so.
They changed the hardware on the new models and then the software and basically obsoleted my TND5
very quickly. Since the new maps need the new software and the new software cant run on 2nd generation hardware - it only gets construction updates now. Nothing more.

I was and still am upset about that, since I dont need all of the fluff that the new models come with.
But being forced out of map updates and being required to purchase a new unit to get new updates
was a big let down. Less than 3 yrs before EOL.

    Panhandle flash Thanks this.
