Im from Maryland and have decided to go to school for my class A's. But im having some trouble choosing a particular place. Id much rather get advice from drivers than from whats posted on company websites. Id like to attend a school that pays me while training. (the first 3-4 weeks)
Recommendation for school

I don't know of school that will pay you while training. You will require about 2 to 4 months depending on your hours of class and training.
You DO NOT want to sign a contract with a company to train you on the job so to speak. If you ran into something and hurt it, making it your FAULT and PREVENTABLE, they can fire you and then immediately put you into collections for the balance due now.
There are a number of schools in Maryland. I went to Diesel institute off Haven Street in Baltimore back in the 80's before they were closed one day without explanation.
Remember... Discard obvious marketing BS such as "Some of the BEST COMPANIES IN THE COUNTRY..." YA RIGHT. or anything else designed to draw in those who do not employ critical thinking.
Trucking school regardless of who they are, will teach you just enough to get through a State DMV driving test with a 18 wheeler (Hopefully a manual transmission tractor trailer, double check this before you commit to a school.. your CDL is given a restriction against manual for Auto only, which REALLY HURTS your employ-ability.)
The two uploaded pictures contain names and address of 20+ schools in Maryland.Attached Files:

Roehl Transport pays their students $500.00 weekly while in their cdl school. They hold back the first 3 weeks, then give it to you. The day your classroom training starts is the day your pay starts.
Roehl does a hair follicle drug test, so you need to be clean for 12 months to pass that.

Millis Transfer is an excellent company and you'll probably make over $50K the first year.
Millis does urine drug test, so you need to be clean 90 days to pass that.
As far as pay, you'll have to call and ask about pay during training.
You'll need $500.00 for their school and the rest is free if you agree to work there 12 months.Last edited: Aug 20, 2018

If you go with company-paid training, they'll make you their indentured servant. Hello, I-95 North and the great Northeast. That's where you're gonna be going alot. You can't say NO. They'll fire you and then take you to court for 10,000. NEVER do the company-paid training if it comes with a can't-leave condition. I spent big bucks back in the 90s on a CDL. Never again. I let mine lapse for 12 years after it expired, and then I went back and got it again. Cost the second time was about 500, and it took about 4 hours to get it. I didn't study for the learner's permit, and then I went to a place where you can rent a truck, mentor / coach, and a DMV tester. Easy. I got a 100 on my driving test, and a 100 on my written parts for the Learner's and endorsements. You DON'T have to sign an indentured servitude / slavery agreement.

Shippers Choice in Manassas VA. I went there and they’re good.
Most of the people that I went with during training were from Maryland. They got an apartment for the time being and changed residence in VA.
This was a long time ago but, if I’m not mistaken. Va has 2 skills tests, straight back and curved back. Maryland has 4, straight back, curved back, alley dock (90 degree) and parallel.
