    Hey guys....

Mike # Millis has promptly returned any of my emails. Some of the recruiters are not as responsive
but they are processing over 300 applications a day. So patience is in order. The trick is to be assertive
and in their face but doing it the 'right' way.. It can be a fine line...how much is TOO much?
Millis is indeed closed on training until 2010 and there are no dates setup at this point.
I was accepted by Millis but need to wait until an MTI class becomes available. I'm not in any
hurry - so that might work out.. There is virtually nothing negative online about Millis
so if your qualified and get accepted, I think its one of the best companies to begin a career
with and maybe even stay...Hey, if they treat drivers right...why leave?

Will Millis accept someone with 2 speeds on their MVR??

Roehl wont accept 2 DWIs (even if they were eons ago) due to their runs into Canada.
It seems Canada doesn't want anyone in there without a squeaky clean #######...

I guess i've never tried to email them much. The one time I did email Mike, he called me back later in the day. I always call and they are very friendly and helpful. If this says anything about the way they run the company, I will be there for many years to come. Any of the other companies I have called either don't return the calls or they are rude once they do. I have nothing but respect so far for the company. I start MTI on Monday so I'm sure i'll chime in with more positive things to say. I would definitely stay on track to getting on with them. If you're in no hurry and you can wait a few months, I would surely think it would be worth it. I'll keep updating through school and training and try to answer any questions that I can. Again, good luck and I hope you find what you're looking for.

The same could be said about Prime. But as I've said before you hafta start somewhere. And in this business it's usually a crappy job. My first employer got bought out by Swift and it was a crappy company to begin with. Everybody's gotta pay their dues.

Oh absolutely. I totally agree. I started at US Xpress. Most do have to start somewhere and it is usually a major carrier that will use and abuse you for a year because they know you are limited til you get at least that one year verifiable experience. I was just saying if Swift doesn't take him he won't be missing much because any where else he goes won't be much different.

Went to the Swift Academy in Memphis... (Millington actually)... Much much older than 23. Wished I had sought alternative methods of training. After two years of driving for Swift (yeah, one of the few who actually made it that long), I found out that the cdl that I had obtained thru Swift was invalid because of some shady dealings of which is still under investigation by the FBI, CIA and the like. If I were handing out advice, I would say, go to a community college, get certified training, and drive for another company before you sink your life into Swift. I am of the upper level of intelligence, and just wanted my education, my experience, and get on my way. I got stopped dead in my tracks because of the Memphis School. Since a lot of the larger companies are doing away with inexperienced drivers, it's very difficult to find a job with no experience, but they are finding the risks are too high to have students out there behind the wheel. I was fortunate because I got in under the wire. I left there with an outstanding driving record and a perfect safety record. I have never hit anything, nor has anyone ever hit me. When I was in training at Swift, we never even learned the simple stuff like hooking up your air lines... adjusting your brakes, or even opening up the back doors! Imagine my frustration on my mentor's truck when I couldn't even figure that one out! Of course, several thousands of miles later and a new company, I have moved on to a much better company. The only thing I took from school to the road at Swift was the legal weights for your axles. I guess if you can pass by a scale then you've got it made... according to the wonderful education from Swift Transportation.

If ya haven't heard from swift yet, move on. Sometimes they won't do the courtesy of a call back to you. Good Luck............

With most companies getting tons of applications/day I am surprised any
of them bother to call or email back.

But if you have a SOLID work record and clean MVR..that should deserve a response.

Roehl recruiting has returned any email or call I have placed to them very promptly. I have doubts about companies that cannot take the time to respond to qualified applicants. I mean if they can't respond to you now, I wonder if that wouldn't be cause for concern later on??

Of course many people are applying that have/had crappy MVRs or bad work history and with the economy at the state it's in right now, the trucking companies can be VERY CHOOSY.

It can even be how well an application is filled out (or not filled out).
I never leave anything empty. I either put N/A or something similar so the application does not contain blank spaces.

If it asks something like "Have you ever had a DWI" - vs "..in the last 10yrs" - you need to be honest. I had a friend fired from Swift cause she lied on the application, sort of. Her DWI was 15+ years ago. It's off the MVR but some insurance company found it and since the application said "Have you EVER had a DWI" - and she said NO, she was fired for falsification of work application.

    ..just my $.02
