Ask which schools they hire from.

Contact everyone.. There is no harm in calling places, whats the worst that can happen? They say no and you move on to calling the next? Like I tell everybody.. there is a shortage of good drivers, and teams are even more rare for companies to find.. don't sell yourself short because of your lack of experience.. Your husband has about 3 years so its just like a new driver riding with a trainer! Good luck!

Talk straight to a trucking company. If you go to a company that recruits and places you with a company they will take part of your pay. The drivers that get hired by the temp companies and then work for trucking companies get a small bit less pay than the drivers working directly for the trucking company. That difference in pay goes to the recruiter or temp service. Don't work anywhere until after you have talked directly with drivers at the company you are considering. There is nothing you can read online or hear in a phone call that will tell you as much as talking to a current driver with a company. Most of what you need to know (how well does dispatch work, how well do they take care of trucks, etc) will never be in a brochure. In the brochures and web pages every company is the leading company in the industry, has a new pay plan, is big enough to dominate and small enough to care. Without talking to current drivers you might as well buy a car based on TV ads alone. You only have power BEFORE you hire on. They day after you have only the power the company allows or the power to quit.

You are correct each driver makes the .7042 cpm. Huge money in LTL teams. And if I’m not mistaken a lot of UPSF team schedules are dedicated 2 turns, 4 day work weeks. So that’s amazing money especially for gettin 3 day weekends. That may not be the case at every barn tho. Not sure about the parcel side however. I know when I teamed with Estes our truck did 70 mph and UPS teams no matter what the division, would pass us. So a slow truck isn’t an issue either.

That's weird because I have yet to be passed by a UPS truck and I've passed probably hundreds of them. My truck only does 68. UPS does 65. Maybe 66.

Why would you go with a third part recruiter? How do you think a recruiter earns his wage?

Head hunters or temporary recruiters are a sign of a bad company to work for in the first place. If you know what is going on in trucking, why would you want to go to a third party for your hiring when you bear all the risks of who is hired?

Companies that use third party recruiters do so only because they don't have their own operations under control, don't know a thing about trucking, or have a temporary job they need to fill. And usually all three things can be said about the trucking company using a third party. As such, any recruiter is the last place I say look for a job.

I just didn't know the first place to start. My hubby got his job right out CDL college but this is different for us.

Move to Las Vegas; good weather year round and plenty of trucking jobs. Old Dominion has a terminal there. Nevada; no personal state income taxes; no food taxes!

I think my hubby would divorce me if I said I wanted to move again. We have moved so much and we just want to keep a home in one place. Also our kids are at college in PA so it would be better to be on this side of the country.
