I recently signed up to be a trucking recruiter...what is your opinion of them? I got a few replies in the beginning, but now it seems people aren't as receptive...

I would guess timing is everything. Most days I wouldn't want to hear from you. But there are days most drivers are disgruntled and those days will be your lottery. Be passively persistant. Check in maybe twice a month and never ever be pushy. Keep it short and sweet. Always ask how it's going with current company and if it is not going well you have a potential for a lengthy and possibly rewarding wait.
Recruiter3 Thanks this. -
What xls said. Just don't be "the average recruiter" and you'll be fine. My own opinion of recruiters is kept strictly on an individual basis. But I know a lot of people expect to be lied to, so if you keep your information accurate (even the "I don't knows" and "I can't promise thats" ) then you may increase your numbers simply through appreciation. Recruiters are like drivers who are like every other job: you have some who just want to slip into a pattern, and you have others who take pride in whatever they're doing and try to make a difference for themselves and their industry. The choice is yours.
xlsdraw and Recruiter3 Thank this. -
That's what my supervisor says so that checks out,and that has been my experience so far is that most of them seem to be hesitant. I got off to a running start and got all kinds of replies on Facebook, which was one place I started to look...but then after that puffed out things seemed to slow down for some reason. Maybe more people are looking on Mondays, which was when I started. As far as persistence I'm the last person to be pushy and may even not be as persistent as I should so as not to drive them further away. Most I did was offer my services and if they declined then I simply asked them to hang onto my contact info.

Being that I just started I expected I'd have alot of I don't knows, but I'm getting to know the client companies pretty quickly so I have alot of answers usually up front now. Sometimes they tell me I'm being too cryptic with not offering names of companies etc,but that's my bread & butter...if I give away client names and they go and direct apply then I lose my credits.

I understand the position but if you try to sidestep the issue, people may see it as being shady. I'd just be straight up and tell drivers exactly what you said here. I would think most of us can understand that.
