The driver pays for the training, either through indentured servitude of extra low wages for 12-18 months, and little to no benefits. Or, if the driver leaves before the time is up, then the trainee driver is charged back the training cost.

Lawsuits are a part of doing business. Even experienced drivers have major accidents. It's the minor scrapes and dings that the new drivers tend to have the most problem with. For an extra 114 million a year a few scrapes and dings can be easily covered.

The biggest companies could not survive with all experienced drivers and charge what they have to charge in order to get freight.
