Running banners without a permit is a good way to get a ticket. Anybody doing that better hope a scale master doesn't ask them for a permit.

I flag every load as a matter of practice and I run banners even when empty

I guess I don't understand why putting flags on over hang makes you a "wanna be" - it takes no time and can provide a tiny margin of safety.

Ok I'm only talking about 2 little red flags zip tied to the load's rear. No oversized banners or escorts. lol Not trying to be a supertrucker. Just saw someone else doing it and I got worried I didn't .

    Razororange Thanks this.

Yea, the answer to your original question is no. Flags are not required at that little overhang. If it's something big like a crate you probably don't need them.

If it's something small or hard to see like steel bar or something it wouldn't be a terrible idea to put something there. Just so somebody doesn't nose into it at a light behind you.

Airborne, SAR, DDlighttruck and 2 others Thank this.

I put a flag on anything more than a few inches of overhang also, only takes a second and sure aint hurting anything. The way people "drive" anymore, a little extra is a good thing

Or do what I did last winter walking around my trailer checking my load. It swelled up bad shortly after I took the pic. I flag over hang now. IMG_20170118_135245240.jpg
