My first car had a rotting rear frame. 1979 Olds Cutlass Salon, 4dr fastback. I'm looking for another one now...
While I was driving down a dirt road after school one day, I hear a loud clunk. Check rearview, back bumper is cartwheeling down the road behind me. Back up, put bumper in backseat. Dad used a sledgehammer to drive 2x4s into the frame rails, and cut them off to match. Screwed a 2x10 into those, and "friends" at school decorated it with Sharpies, crayons, nail polish, you name it. Now they can't believe I want another one of those cars, except NOW I know how to weld and fabricate new bumper mounts, if not a whole new frame if needed....lol

I once zip tied a plastic garbage bag to the front of my pickup. So cold out that the POS Chrysler 46RE transmission wouldn't shift out of 2nd gear. Looked ghetto but at least I could zip along at 110 :biggrin_2559:

What was your original plan for the large bag of leather strips.

I don't remember. Someone was throwing it away. Like my grandpa in that regard, never throw something away you may be able to use 50 years from now... Lol

First car was a 65 Plymouth Valiant that had fresh air vents under the dash with pull doors that wouldn't stay shut, so I duct taped them, as it was winter.

Well over a year later zipping along doing about 60 with some friends when one vent door opened and blew dirt, leaves and those helicopter things from maple trees all over us, in our eyes, mouths and nostrils . I barely got the car pulled over before we all got killed.

Best car I ever owned and only paid $50 for it. Insurance was $300 a year I think, lol!

On my old K100 the air wiper system was full of kinks and cracks. It couldn't build enough pressure to get started, but once it got going it worked fine. I tied a copper insulated wire to the driver's side wiper arm and ran it back into the cab through the vent window. Turned the knob then gave the wire a tug and it'd run all day.

Just last night...had to get a rear marker light working, but the wire was broke off right at the plug. So, easy enough problem to solve...
