I picked up this reefer this morning. Tandems will not slide but not a big deal, it's only 22,000 lbs. Pull over for a nap, the thing is trying to start every few seconds. It says 1/4 tank, I have a fuel stop in a couple hours I was waiting for. Suggestions? Fuel now? Is it broken?
Sounds like some air was sucked into the fuel system. Now that is running, set it on continues run for a good 5 minutes and keep an eye on it for the rest of the trip.
If it's alive and running, set the thing to continuous now. Get fuel asap. That 1/4 tank wont last long. FIND a shop to take a look at the hard start problem before something else hurts it. Hopefully after you have delivered this one. If it managed to store codes on hard to start or no start attempts the reefer shop should see it.
It already cut out again, has been trying to restart maybe about 20 Starts Now, fuel is only a few miles more, I guess I will schedule a stop near maintenance this trailer supposed to be on me until tomorrow evening
Is it starting, then running very slow and rough then shuts itself off or it never starts, rough or otherwise? It may have gotten bad fuel somewhere and the filters are bad or somebody may have tampered with your fuel supply Some newer carrier units a year or so ago had an issue that prime would slowly be lost during off cycles and some fuel from near the pump would fall back into the tank, causing difficult starts. Also could be a bad rpm sensor lying to the main board. This issue may or may not throw a code.
And check to make sure the primer pump actuator is closed good (screwed down tight) and you don’t see any fuel leaks up in the engine compartment (even seemingly minor ones) It should look similar to this
Whatever the problem, call your company. Describe the symptoms. Let them decide what to do. If you don't company will blame you for not letting them know & letting them take action. They will rather replace you than pay claim for rejected load. Don't assume responsibility for their faulty equipment.
