That's interesting, the off road diesel pumps I use don’t have highway tax on them although all of these were not at a truck stop.

If you do pay tax for any type (on road/off road) and use it off road or in a reefer the IRS has a form that you file to get the tax money back for anybody that does not know this.

We just use the regular pumps where you select tractor, reefer or both. You pump your tractor, turn the pump off and then back on for the reefer. Finding places with seperate off road dyed fuel are far and few in between. We do have it at our terminals. But for the most parts companies fuel the reefer at the regular pumps seperating the transactions.

Now how many people get caught running farm diesel in their pickup's? Id love to see the statistics. I can understand the semi trucks running around cause they go through chicken coops and get stopped by the weight and license dps patrol.

I don't know anyone personally who has been caught, this is something most of the people I know now wouldn't do.

I have never seen them dip tanks at a weigh station, either, but I have heard that they do, and the thing about them going to auctions and checking diesel pickup tanks wouldn't surprise me at all.

I was at the coop south of Green Bay, WI on 41 and the trooper there chased down a Chevy Avalanche to check the tags to be sure there was enough license on it.

I do believe if they think someone may be cheating the fuel tax, they would be trying to catch them at it.

I know they can be vigilant in Wisconsin; they were dipping tanks at the fairgrounds up in the middle of nowhere in Antigo when I was there a few years ago and they are known for things like attending farm auctions/logging shows etc. I also saw them dipping a bus tank at the rest area south of Green Bay (he had gotten pulled over for something else first)

The fines are huge (like $10,000) and those they catch, they can and do sometimes additionally audit with the IRS as well who comes after you criminally for failure to pay taxes going back a few years

Reading other forums like diesel pickups & RVs I see this type of stuff mentioned in other states also. Maybe not common everywhere but with states looking hard for new income it may increase rapidly soon!

I worked at the Pilot in San Antonio back in 2002 and they never sold any ORD then. I guess things changed now
