There are certain loads that spec a van, mostly lightweight empty bottle runs, reefers don't have enough room in them because the outside is the same size and the inside is smaller because of the insulation. Some parts runs use racks that won't fit in anything other than a plate van which has no liner so it is wider still.
Outside dimension is 102 inches wide, the inside height is less in a reefer and inside length, too, as well as the obvious one of width.
