    Hey guys
Currently, I have my own authority and 2 trucks running reefer vans. I want to try flatbed this year. Any advice, tips, tricks, techniques you would be willing to share with me would be great.
What kind of trailer do I buy?
What equipment do i need to get started? (Number and type of chains, straps, etc.)
What are the DOT going to look for at the chicken coop?

Thanks guys. I always learn alot from posts on this forum.

I read thru the sticky post and found some good info still have a few questions tho is it easy to get freight starting out? It was super easy on reefer side
Are dedicated runs common? How do you guys navigate job sites with big chrome bumpers hanging down so low?

Some do,.. but most dont. No side fairings or low bumpers. Expect some battle scars if you do.

If your authority is more than 6 months old you wont have any problems with brokered freight off the load boards.

Flatbed and reefer are 2 completely different animals. Dont try to chase miles or look for the highest gross loads. You'll end up with excessive dead heading or running cheap just to get back to a better lane.

As with anything else,.. the more experience you get under your belt the better you will become at it. Knowing who to call and where to be are crucial when running spot market. You want the best paying loads and from my experience the less people you have to compete with the better the rates are going to be or the better negotiation strength you will have.

The rest of open deck is just common sense.

    Don't run into things.

But seriously if you are on 24.5" rubber and no skirts, just pay attention to what you're doing and you'll be fine. Don't send a lowered show class Pete onto job sites.

    SAR Thanks this.
