The only thing I've pulled so far is a reefer so I'm used to the noise. However, I usually scan for a spot away from other folks at stops or near other running reefers.
However, I also use IdleAire so I try to use the end spots so I'm far enough away from everyone else as I can get. However, there is really nothing I can do about it, and you shouldn't really worry yourself about it to much either.
Pulling a reefer is just part of the job, and most other truckers will respect that even if they don't like the noise. But then again, they are probably idling their engines anyways.
For those that do complain, I give them a tissue and a set of ear plugs and ask them not to idle their truck cause it bothers me.
