I started a new job with a local fertilizer company back in November and a few weeks ago the boss asked if I knew anyone looking for a job so I referred a guy I use to work with at a certain reefer company who was looking for a local job.
On his very first day he shows up to the office looking like a typical mega carrier driver wearing sweatpants, stained tennis shoes and a ridiculously oversized bluetooth headset. Needless to say he turned heads for all the wrong reasons since many of the customers we serve are in that office every morning.
This guy was also told that he would be doing more than just driving a truck and he threw a huge fit because he thinks the company needs to bend over backwards for him just because he has a CDL while not knowing that ALL employees at this location have CDLs.
Well he gets in a truck and sometimes he's busy hauling grain but on the days where he's only driving for 4 or 5 hours he gets "sick" all of a sudden and needs to go home while at the same time complaining about not getting enough hours for the week.
Needless to say I am DONE helping people get jobs.
Now that I got all that off my chest I was wondering if anyone else had similar stories to share.

I would have a talked with him. Tell him he’s making you look bad. And apologize to the company. Let the company know to cut him loose if necessary, no hard feelings.

I said yes. I knew a guy I used to work with a few years earlier, he was a very good driver.
He hired him and a few months later I asked the VP how he was working out. He said I fired him because he was into to him for 3K in comchecks for his cocaine problem!

Having worked most of my 12 year trucking career as a local driver, I have met and worked with my share of former OTR drivers trying to switch over to a local job.
I hate to say it, but in my experience, they are almost all like this. It rarely ends well. They usually come in thinking they know everything, then two weeks later they are gone.
To be fair, I would almost certainly be just as useless as an OTR driver! LOLJonJon78, 88 Alpha, IH Truck Guy and 4 others Thank this. -

My question is who interviewed him? Sounds like a failure on their part. Pretty easy to weed out the chaff in a 10 minute interview.
