I know how to double clutch , I just was never any good at it. I do it when I need to but either than that I float gears.

If the company requires double clutch you have to do as they request for the test unfortunately. Funny story I never went through a driving school. When I went for my cdl we started on our way and the lady looks over and states " your not double clutching". I said no I never learned how, and from a mechanics point of view every time I step on the clutch I'm wearing it out. She thought about this for a few seconds and agreed that it was true and let me carry on floating gears and passed me when I was done.

Well kinda wrong I have a 96 Volvo that you only single clutch or you'll mess up the synchronizer absolutely no double clutching or floating but it is the only truck I have ever seen thats like that.

One thing that gives me trouble while floating gears, is when I'm loaded, and I guess the weight of the load is 'weighing down on' the transmission, and I'll try to float up a gear while upshifting---and the stick just STAYS in the current gear. I end up lightly tapping the clutch in these situations, to get out of gear, but there has to be a better way. sometimes I will give the engine one last sharp little rev just to make sure i can get out of gear and hit the up shift... what do you guys think? what's a good way to handle this

This usually happens to me when in a Cascadia with its tight shifter, just wind it up and put a little more weight on the stick as you are about to come off the fuel, it just takes practice and timing.

Me three, my first driving job was in a '96 Volvo (FE6?) with a synchromesh. I was fresh out of driving school and thought I had my gear float technique down pat...until I got in that Volvo. For some reason (probably because it was a brand new truck) I couldn't float them to save my life.
