bulkheads would help. But i can see the load vibrating inwards and securement loosening up every few miles.

I've hauled loads like that too. Never had them move except one. But i've never had teh spacing OP has either.

    Chewy352 Thanks this.

I really like that you post regulations for how to secure cargo in a van vs. A flatbed. I posted the regulations concerning loading a flatbed which clearly state the product must be touching or have vertical bracing to keep the product from moving in towards the center. Yes a proper bulkhead should restrain any forward movement but does not solve the issue of the product having space in between to migrate to which would loosen the straps. I highly suggest you reread the securement manual and your green book.

I wish I had thought of that too. My first thought though was to create bracing and then it all went south.

Using the "weave" creates chokepoints on seperated freight to prevent forward or backward movement while at the same time keeping the freight properly seperated. It is not ideal (I personally prefer blocking), but it does work nicely.

And here is the relevant regulation which you chose to ignore. I suggest you go do some more reading. You simply cannot have items unrestrained between 2 bulkheads. If the outer bundles move then the straps loosen. I don't care how much you think they won't move you have to treat it like they will. If you simply can't grasp this concept I suggest you go back to dragging a van and quit giving bad advice. With that I'm done speaking to you. The good help I get from the professionals on here is more important then going back and forth with you.

DOT will shut down a truck if they think the cargo is not tied down to their liking.
Forget what the book says, the language in the law books is written well enough for a DOT officer to shut down what he wants, you can't argue with them, and if you do you'll cause your self more trouble.

We're trained to individually wrap each bundle with chains only. Each chain wraps two bundles, and you can't wrap bundles that are side by side. Outside bundles get two wraps.
Chains also supposedly help prevent forward movement in this situation.
If all this makes sense without pictures, congratulations.

I hate those loads. Gerdau is good to put vertical blocking on bar, but not this. Go figure.

Make sure you place your binders between the two chokes/wraps if your doing it that way. A binder on the outside will not pull the far choke tight.
They probably don't do vertical blocking because it will not stay in place. You could nail a piece of 2X4 between them.
Hate those loads? Hot rolled, stuff that is grey and has scale, is easy compared to cold roll that is smooth and shiny.

    Good thread people !!

I'm awaiting the comfortable Phatso with nothing to lose to chime in on this- You Know that guy..The Guy driving the freshly painted W-900 with 7 inch Smokehole stacks saying something like...........

"Aww, You guys don't know how to serve a customer, Sometimes you Load somehwre without saying a word to anyone"

You guys know who I'm talkin' about.....Big CB Radio..But Only talks to relaxed, seasoned drivers with Asset based livelihoods.....Stands in Line at a Truck wash or Bob's Tire and Oil service chewing Gum with his Trimmed beard and firm demeanor.

Wouldn't Assist anyone, But would let you hear him coming down the street

I'm awaiting "That Guy" To comment here........

As For places like SDI in Roanoke..Or Other places, They get "Comfortable" When Drivers don't say anything..So When Someone finally speaks up about issues...They Get Upset because they are Blindsided by a Driver Actually Standing up.

This Industry has far too many Yellowbellies and Wimps, And Yes, I Do Know you all have Bills to pay. I Do too.
