Some of these negitive responces are more than likely coming from smokers, What they dont understand is some people, Like myself have allergic reaction to cig. smoke, To tell someone to just deal with it!, Just wrong, Have some respect for people not wanting to smell your smoke,

Maybe they clean them, Swift did...No telling how good of a job they might do.
If it was smoked in a lot, forget about ever getting the smell out of it completely. -
I think people are being honest with him. His first question should be. Will he get a smoking or non smoking trainer. Companies do try to match you with a trainer that doesn't smoke. The amount of people who do smoke are probably closer to the 75%. So if you can afford to wait for a non smoking trainer to finish with his student. Instead of going with the smoking trainer his is available at the end of orientation. Will be on you.
I too am a non smoker, and I have asthma. So yes the smell of a truck effects my breathing. But me thinking I'm going to go to some bottom feeding training company and not be issued a truck that had a smoker in it is not realistic. You will be lucky if they clean the truck. Most of the trucks they send you to pick up that were abandoned and they don't know if that driver was a smoker or not. They just want to get that truck rolling.
This industry is not driver friendly. As a rookie you are a dime a dozen, and they have 20 fresh new faces coming in who are hungry to make a dollar, and can buy their cleaning supplies like everybody else. You might want to have your own money to pay for your way home, and be ready to be dinged on your dac report. For Refusing a load under dispatch. You also never know when you will be broken down and they have a truck they want you to use to get load delivered on time that has had smoker in it. Also hope you can hold your breath while in the long lines at shippers and receivers when you are surrounded by people who have their clothes filled with that god awful smoke smell. Ukkk
This is not a non smoker friendly industry, and unless you coming in. With your own smoke free truck. You are at the mercy of the company. You hire on with. -

It seems that the majority of drivers are overweight chain smokers. They have low self esteem and don't seem to care about their health. They act like they don't have much to live for. I pity them.
-
I had the same attitude when I smoked because I didnt know how bad I stunk. Smokers are some of the smelliest people I know. Try quitting for a month and see for yourself, food also tastes totally different. -
This is all part of the way companies disrespect drivers. You shouldn't be issued a filthy nasty truck.
The companies are not going to pay to clean their trucks. That's part of the free labor they get from their drivers.
The same drivers that sit for hours at docks unpaid. -
OldDude50 Thanks this.

Just because you and others may have been forced in to taking something you didnt want does not mean the rest of us should.
Kinda goes along the lines of "You cant get a LTL/local job if you dont have experience". Thats a load of crap, there are posts here to prove otherwise.
Anyway Im done posting in this thread. Im off for a weeks vacation in Yosemite. -
honestly if you have plenty of options and are an expert in a field
and not willing to be bent over
you might not care for truck driving
"it" all runs down hill and the driver is at the bottom
if i could afford a week at yosemite
maybe i could have found that local LTL job
OH wait I wanted to do OTR I forgot
