There is no such thing as national rates, it is all regional.
As it was said, the inbound rate may be great but if you have to travel 500 miles to get a load back, it ain't worth it, so if you want to help, then find some freight back.

A lot of hard work driving from Pomona to Denver with 40k. Maybe 2 or 3 chain ups for 5 months of the year. Two really big passes to go over , not fun in a under powered truck.
Pay enough and you can get it moved.Dino soar, dunchues, JolliRoger and 2 others Thank this. -

$4/mi would do it. That way the carrier can decide to run back empty or take the extra time in loading something cheap back. At least the carrier could decide whether to turn and burn back for another load or maybe even head to another market.
If you have decent volume you could see where as the price rises you secure more dedication to your freight.Dino soar and Speed_Drums Thank this. -
For flatbed whenever i see loads out of california going out to colorado i sometimes barely see them reach $2 a mile, mostly $1.85ish then coming back its all really cheap and heavy freight. Theres one brokerage that really likes to #### people over and skimp hundreds off average rate and they know youll most likely take it because its a black hole. Only once did i get a $3 back to bakersfield, but i was like a hawk on the boards, tried my luck next week and cheap freight so i stopped running up there

Doesnt matter what the regional rate is when youre talking about a dead spot like denver. Any load to denver has to pay enough to deadhead 500 miles or more to get the next load or im not interested.

Have to remember Denver is a terrible market very well might be deadheading out instead of wasting time and fuel on a $0.85 a mile backhaul -
Unless you consider beer at $1.20 mile good.
Fair enough. Need $5ish, maybe high$4 to go to Denver right now.Wasted Thyme Thanks this.
