I've been to Chicago, and the food is very good. But nothing is like New York food.
And to the op, if you don't want to go to New York you need to sit down and talk with your bosses and the management and explain to them why you don't want to go and maybe they will understand. And if they don't understand at least if something happens you told them.
It depends where you're going in the city, but if you really have good directions and you know where you're headed you map it out beforehand you'll be fine.
It's a psychological thing being afraid to go into New York City with the tractor trailer.
I don't know how far away you are but maybe you can run the route in your car first and see how it is.
You'll be fine just make sure you have everything mapped out exactly where you are going to on a truck route, and don't believe any of the signs for height in New York City.

Actually I would have to contest that. Once upon a time you could eat the world in terms of food across Baltimore. Now, a good street truck or a roach coacher as we called them such as might be found in Philly etc are addicting. They can throw down a hash of beef, gravy, cheese, onions, big bread and a couple of other things to go with it in a few moments. Wrap extras in a foil for later tonight or tomorrow.

I offer you help with the trip planning into NYC. Sometimes I did not go into the city without examining every turn possible with two or three alternative routes. We did not have internet like we have now with that nice google earth.
We had one recently here on TTR wanting to go to 110th street I think and Im not sure if he made it or not. It's a tiny street he was aiming. -
I love NYC runs. I walk down 5th avenue and times square and see the stuff I see on TV. Businesses treat me as part of the elite since broke people who live in that area don't have enough money to shop.

My favorite are the little delis, you can literally stop that semi trailer and all right there double parking the heck of of like 10 cars for a moment when you run in grabbing a sammich or something quick. Even if it's a couple dogs and kraut and top it with a rootbeer drink or something. they know how to top a kraut. There is a little bit of yelling but usually one of the locals fire back saying forgetaboutit, youse see he's 'ungry. Let's go.
I tell you about Jersey. Or "Joisay.." if I hear "Wadda" (Water...) from anyone...TruckRunner Thanks this. -
Yeah NYC has no rules when it comes to driving. People drive on the sidewalk to get around somebody and it's no big deal.

I went into the Bronx one time and it was by far the worst experience I have ever had driving a truck. You are risking a running somebody over or hitting a bridge or a car or getting stuck somewhere and having to call for a police escort every time you go there unless you know the route perfectly. Our GPS was useless. If your company wants to go to New York City there are 10,000 other companies that don’t. Find another company.

I never went to NYC. I never had the opportunity, so I never had to refuse. I think, I would though, even if they paid me an extra thousand, this is due to all the ghost and horror stories I heard. I feel confident driving a truck in Chicago, but to some areas I'd rather not go, and that is also time of a day depending.

My son-in-law works for McClane and delivers to fast food joints in NYC 5 nights a week, all 5 boroughs, 53 ft trailer. He doesn't use a GPS.. He's there at night so the traffic is somewhat bearable.

Hot pastrami on rye or a bacon egg n cheese bagel from a Jewish bakery where the bagels are made fresh right in front of you, oh yea boy that's good eating
