Most of the stuff I haul is 8” wide so it makes using the plates difficult. They are awkward with straps because they tear up the strap on the winch side so I only use them with ratchets.

Do you haul your own freight or always someone else’s junk?

I love nice equipment too but I’m getting old and it’s hard to fight every one around me constantly. They all are looking to tear up our equipment. Even dirt haulers. Supposed to be our brothers? Letting rocks and sand fly out there trailers as they cut in front of us.

People always want to use my polished wheels to get on my trailer. I’m like WTF there’s steps right there and there!!!

I always ask them where there car is and ask if I can climb on the hood with my work boots on?

    ####ers!!!!

THAT burns me. And it never fails, right after I pressure wash my deck and clean out all of the junk from the j-tracks, the very next load has a worker walking around on my deck in muddy boots.

Another one is when they have the forks tilted back and run up into my tires.

What’s the point in having nailers and not using them?

If my trailer was built without them I wouldn't care. I never use them and won't start now.

I've hauled reels of cable, reels of pipe, each time they ask, can we nail to your trailer. I say no, they say no problem. We'll wedge the boards in this way and they'll stay, and always have. Had a guy once that wanted to nail boards to my floor. I said why, he said it will keep that machine base from moving. We got into an argument and I told him lose the boards or unload the freight. I explained that if my chains don't hold that machine base, your boards aren't gonna do ####. They are there for people that don't care and will use them. I won't let anyone nail to my trailer. And screws, on don't even go there. We had one guy that wanted to drill the nailers and put 1/2" carriage bolts through the floor. Um sorry pal, gtfoh and keep the freight. Absolutely ####in no.

Its my equipment, not theirs. If they want their freight hauled it's their job to provide a means necessary to haul it that it's safe and won't damage your equipment. I bet when they put a reel of cable in the bed of their pickup they don't nail boards through the floor.

I told one guy he sticks his foot in my wheel and we're gonna step outside. I keep my stuff tight and right. I will push back. Respect my equipment and I'll respect your freight. As for the plates. Doonan plates don't work with straps. When I chain it's always on the hooks. And my hooks, like reitnouer hooks go both directions.

Your trailer your choice I guess. Drilling and using carriage bolts is pretty crazy nailing down blocking is acceptable in my opinion. Did it all the time hauling glass and never had an issue. It was a belt and suspenders way of keeping the loads from shifting. C36BCFD0-960E-4F85-A72C-FD4DD6396DCE.jpeg 944AAB38-4C6F-43BD-871D-C8DF9DD136F9.jpeg

If you like it, I love it. And my trailers were bought used except my POS Mac and most manufacturers wouldn't build them without nailers then. My current is a 2013 new doonan and it wasn't an option then either. But if I ever buy new again, it will be without nailers. Waste of money imo.

I think J hooks are the best thing. I use mine any time I need too. I carried a ton on my reitnouer, some of the tri angle 1s also, those I felt were better for chaining. The East I have now has never had anything strapped or chained to a stake pocket or rub rail. On my reitnouer and Mac they had the 5 rows of J hook track. It was nice using the J hooks with machines, or a small crate you could use the middle tracks then put a partial or something along side that crate. I will try to find some pictures.

Ya find some pics please. Ive seen pics of the triangle ones. And yes they look better for chaining. However i couldn't find any for sale. Just the oval ones. Found 6" and even 9" but no triangle. Did they discontinue those?
